How the price of a quote line is built
How Vendria calculates the price of a quote line: price table, promotion, discounts that multiply, fixed price, base price and taxes.

What it is
The calculation that produces the final price of a quote line, the same on screen, in the cart, on WhatsApp and in the exported file. It is what answers "why did this customer pay that?", even after the fact.
Every place that shows a final price goes through the same calculation. If each channel did its own math, the price quoted in the conversation would start to diverge from what the cart adds up.
Where to see where the line's price came from
On the line, the ⓘ next to the price ("Where this price comes from") opens the breakdown of that line:
- Base: where the starting price came from: Price table <name>, Variant price, Product price or Catalog price; the promotion and the rule adjustment, when they exist;
- Discount: each discount applied with its name and percentage, and the ones that were evaluated and not applied, struck through, with the reason;
- Price, per unit, and right below it the Effective discount off the price table (or Above the price table, when the price went over it);
- when the quote has taxes, the price becomes Price excl. taxes, each tax shows per unit and the box closes with Price incl. taxes. The quantity and the line total stay in the table columns, not in the box;
- in the footer, "Price resolved on <date>".
In a cart being edited, the same box has the Adjust price or discount button. To change the price or the discount of a line, see The quote line: quantity, price and discount.
The order of the line price calculation
For each line, in this order:
- the starting price: the variant's, when the product record gives it its own price; otherwise, the price table that applies to that customer in that store; with no customer rule, the store's default price table; with no price table, the product price;
- the promotion, when there is one in effect for the item and it is cheaper;
- the customer rule adjustment: a structural surcharge or reduction (regional, tax, freight), when the rule that chose the price table has one;
- the automatic discounts, compounded with each other;
- the seller discount on that line, on top of the already discounted price;
- the taxes, calculated on the net price, when the document's rule turns them on, tax by tax (each tax has its own switch). The rule is the store's or, on a quote credited to a rep agency, the rep agency's choice;
- the line total: net price times quantity, plus taxes.
How the automatic discounts compound
The types that exist: Store disc., Customer disc., Volume disc., Cash disc. and Manual disc..
Discounts of different types do not add up, they multiply. Example: 10% from the store plus 10% from the customer leave the price at 90% of 90%, that is, a 19% discount in total (not 20%).
Within the same type, the most specific scope wins: that store's rule beats the organization's general rule.
- Volume: looks at the gross subtotal of the whole document and applies the highest tier reached. The line's box shows how much is missing to the next tier ("R$ … to go to the next one"), even when the document has not reached the first one yet.
- Cash: applies when the document's payment condition is the rule's.
⚠️ Since volume looks at the whole document, removing an item or changing a quantity can drop the tier, and the discount of every line falls with it.
The document's manual discount replaces the automatic one
The document's Manual disc. does not take part in the compounding: it replaces the automatic discounts of all lines. While it applies, the line's box shows only it.
It is different from the Seller discount on the line, which applies to a single line and goes on top of the price already with the discounts: in the box, "Seller discount X% · granted on this line".
Customer with price set by the ERP
For some customers, the store's ERP is in charge of the price, and Vendria applies no discount rule at all. The line shows the ERP price step, greyed out, with the reason "price set by the ERP".
Promotion and the automatic discount
When a promotion applies to the item and is cheaper than the starting price, it becomes the price: the box shows Promotion "<name>" and until when it is valid.
The promotion can swallow the automatic discount: in that case the box shows the Automatic discount struck through, "suppressed by the promotion". A manual discount still applies on top of the promotion.
Fixed price and base price
These are the two ways to lock a price on the line, and they do opposite things:
- Fixed price: it is the final price. It replaces the whole discount chain, promotion included; the box shows "Negotiated · final price", with the source and "no discount runs on top", and the rule's discounts do not appear on that line.
- Base price: swaps only the starting price. The rule, the promotion and your discount keep running on top of it. The box says where the base came from: typed, last paid by the customer, from the document (written on the customer's order) or copied from the source quote.
On a base that came from the last paid price, from the document or from the previous quote, the customer rule adjustment is no longer applied: that price was already agreed between the two parties.
A step evaluated and not applied still shows
A rejected step does not disappear from the box: it shows struck through, with the reason: "suppressed by the promotion", "replaced by the fixed price", "price set by the ERP", "no applicable rule". That is what makes it possible to explain the price later, and not only at the moment of the calculation.
When the price dropped and the source of the drop was not recorded, the box shows Discount applied with "source not recorded", instead of making up a rule.
The store's concession ceiling
The store can have a ceiling for the discount the seller grants beyond the automatic one. When the document's manual discount no longer fits under that ceiling (because after it was granted someone changed the quantity, removed an item, changed the customer or the payment terms, and the volume tier dropped), the system lowers the manual discount instead of refusing, and warns on screen: "Manual discount adjusted from X% to Y%…", citing the store's ceiling.
Lowering instead of refusing is on purpose: refusing there would punish you for removing an item. ⚠️ Pay attention to the warning: without reading it, the document's discount changes without you noticing.
When the price recalculates and when it stays frozen
The price recalculates on every change only while the quote is in Draft or Waiting. In Waiting for the customer, Confirmed, Exported, Rejected and Expired, the document is a snapshot.
⚠️ Even in Waiting, while the customer holds a proposal sent with Send estimate, the price does not move under them. To change it, the quote has to go back to editing, which voids the version they received: whoever can edit the quote clicks what they want to change and confirms the notice. For the statuses, see The life cycle of a quote: the statuses and what links one to the next.
One exception: the rep agency's tax choice. When the rep agency changes the tax on the Taxes tab, the tax on the open quotes credited to it is redone right away, including the ones with the customer. The price excluding tax does not change, only the tax and the total. The quote that was with the customer and had its total changed goes back to review: the version they received stops being valid, and it has to be resent with the new tax.
When you change a line's SKU
Changing a line's product discards that line's ERP readings: stock, last paid price and the stock decision. They are answers given about one product; repointing the line would turn them into answers about an item it no longer sells. Stock is checked again for the new product.
What happens to the locked price depends on the type:
- the fixed price typed by hand survives: it is a decision about the line ("this customer pays X for this item"), and it stays true after the change;
- the fixed price that came from a source (the last paid price or the document's, applied with one click, or the one copied from the source quote) drops, and the line goes back to the calculated price;
- the base price always drops, even if you typed it: "this product's price table is Y" stops being true when the line starts selling another product;
- the seller discount survives: it is a concession made by people, and erasing it would destroy what was negotiated.
Common questions
- 10% + 10% came out as 19%. Is that wrong? No: discounts of different types multiply.
- I removed an item and the discount on everything changed. The volume tier looks at the document's subtotal; below the tier, its discount comes off.
- The line does not show the customer discount. Check whether it has a fixed price, whether there is a manual discount on the document, whether a promotion suppressed the automatic one or whether the customer has a price set by the ERP.
- The price of the sent proposal did not change after I edited the price table. A proposal with the customer and a confirmed order do not recalculate. The only exception is the change of the rep agency's tax, which redoes the tax on its open quotes.
