# Product unit, packaging and sales multiple

> For the administrator: set the sales unit, the quantity per package and whether the price is per box or per piece, and require packaging multiples.

## Where to find it

Each product's unit and packaging are set in two places:

- in the **catalog import**, **Price and Packaging** section of the **Mapping
  Review** (your account menu → **Catalog and exports** →
  **Import** tab);
- on the **product page**, through the unit and packaging badge next to the code
  (**Catalog** menu → click the product).

The store's ordering-by-packaging rules are in your account menu, under
**Commercial Rules**, **Orders** section.

## The three pieces of data that decide how the product is sold

- **Sales unit**: what the product is called in the sale: piece, box, pack,
  kit, kilo;
- **Qty per package**: how many units come in one packaging (e.g.: 12 in a
  box);
- **Price per package**: whether the registered price is for the **whole packaging** or
  for the **unit**.

The combination changes how quantity is counted:

| registered price | how it is ordered | example with a box of 12 |
|---|---|---|
| per packaging | in packagings: 1, 2, 3... | 3 = three boxes |
| per individual unit | in multiples of the packaging | 12, 24, 36 units |

This is what turns "3 boxes" into the right quantity when the customer orders by the
box and the price is per piece. A wrong record here shows up as a wrong quantity
or price in the quote, with no error on screen.

## Unit and packaging in the spreadsheet import

When the spreadsheet has unit or packaging columns, the **Mapping
Review** shows the **Price and Packaging** section:

1. In **Selling Unit**, choose the column, or **Default: Unit (un)** if the
   spreadsheet doesn't have that column.
2. In **Qty. per Package**, check the column with the quantity per packaging.
3. If there is one, **Package Type** brings the type (box, pack).
4. In **The price refers to:**, choose **Price per package** or **Price per
   individual unit**.

When the spreadsheet mixes units (part of the catalog in boxes, part in pieces),
the question becomes **For each selling unit, the price refers to:**, with one
choice per unit and the number of products in each. Individual
units (`un`, `pc`) already come as **Price per individual unit**; box,
pack, kit, set, dozen, bale and set-of-pieces come suggested as **Price per
packaging**: check them.

Unit or packaging columns recognized by mistake can be reclassified
in **Classification** (**Ignore**, **Attribute** or **Unit and Pkg.**).

## Unit and packaging on the product page

On the product page, next to the code, there is a badge with the unit and the
packaging (for example, "CX · Emb. 12", or "Emb. —" when there is no packaging).
For the administrator, the badge is clickable:

1. Click the badge.
2. Adjust **Sales unit** (e.g.: Pack, Box, Piece) and **Qty per
   packaging**. Each field saves when you leave it, with the confirmation **Unit
   updated** or **Packaging updated**.
3. When the product has a unit of measure, the **Price per
   packaging** box also appears.

⚠️ In a store whose catalog is synced with the ERP, the unit and
packaging may be set by the ERP: the fields are locked and the
**Catalog synced with the ERP** notice explains it. The fix, in that case, is in the ERP.

## The sales multiple on order screens

With price per unit and packaging greater than 1, the product's quantity moves in
multiples of the packaging. On the product page, a quantity outside the multiple
shows **Not a multiple of N**.

Three store switches, under **Commercial Rules** → **Orders**, control
the behavior:

- **Require Packaging Multiples**: "Products with packaging can only be
  ordered in multiples (e.g.: 30, 60, 90)";
- **+/- buttons add by packaging**: the quantity buttons go up and down
  by the whole packaging;
- **Allow Fractional Quantities**: the screen describes orders in fractions
  for products sold by weight or volume (kg, liter), but ⚠️ today the switch is
  saved without changing the behavior of any catalog or quote screen.

## The store's default sales unit

Under **Catalog and exports** → **Import** tab → **Variants & Prepack** card, the
**Selling units** block shows how many products the store has in each unit, and
**Store defaults** has the **Default selling unit** field. ⚠️ Changing this field
doesn't alter any product already registered; to fix products, use the product
page or re-import the spreadsheet.

## Kit and prepack

A product with variants (color, size) can be an **Open prepack** (the customer
chooses how much they want of each variant) or a **Closed prepack (kit)**: the packaging
already comes with a set composition. In the import, the prepack type comes from the sales
unit: kit becomes closed prepack, the others, open prepack. On the product page,
the administrator switches it with the selector next to the packaging badge.

## When it goes wrong

**"The customer ordered in boxes and the quantity came out wrong."** Check, on the product
page, the **Qty per package** and the **Price per package** box: with no
packaging registered there is no way to convert boxes into units, and with the price
marked the wrong way the math comes out multiplied or divided by the packaging.

**"I can't edit the packaging."** The field is locked by the ERP; fix it there.
