# Discount rules: store, customer, volume and payment

> For the administrator: create store, customer, volume and payment method discounts, and understand how they combine in the price.

## Where to find it

In your account menu, under **Prices**, **Discounts and limits** tab, in the
**Discount Rules** section ("Discounts by volume, payment method and customer.").
Until 18/10/2026 it was in **Commercial Rules**. Click the
title to open it; with the section open, the **New rule** button appears.

The list belongs to the **whole organization**. The columns are **Store**, **Type**,
**Detail**, **%**, **Effective** and **Created**; a rule that applies to all
stores shows "(all)" in the **Store** column. The **Filter by store,
customer or type...** field searches any of them.

## The four types of discount rule

In the **New Discount Rule** dialog, the **Type** field offers:

- **Store disc. (all buyers)**: a percentage for every customer
of that store. Requires choosing the store. It's the same **Default Discount (%)** that
  appears on the store's page.
- **Customer disc. (specific)**: a percentage for a registered
customer. The store is optional: empty, it applies in all of them.
- **Volume disc. (order value)**: tiers by the order's gross value.
  Store optional.
- **Payment disc. (e.g. cash)**: a percentage when the order uses
  specific payment terms. Store optional.

An order without a registered customer gets no customer discount.

## How to create a discount rule

1. Open the **Discount Rules** section and click **New rule**.
2. Choose the **Type**.
3. Choose the **Store**, or **All stores (default)** when the type allows it.
4. Fill in what the type asks for: the **Customer**, the **Discount tiers** or the
   **Payment terms**.
5. Enter the **Percentage (%)**; it accepts a comma, like 12,5.
6. Click **Create rule**.

If an active rule already exists with the same type, the same store and the same customer
or terms, the new one **replaces its percentage** and the screen shows **Rule
updated**, instead of creating a second one. For volume, the same applies to a tier
starting at the same value.

## Volume discount and tiers

In **Discount tiers**, each row is a **From (R$)** value and a
percentage; **Add tier** adds another one. Tiers use the order's
**gross** value, before any discount, and only the **highest** tier
the order reaches applies.

Example: tiers of R$ 5.000 with 3% and R$ 10.000 with 5%. A gross order of
R$ 7.200 gets 3%; one of R$ 12.000 gets 5%; one of R$ 4.000 gets no
volume discount.

Each tier becomes its own row in the list. A row left blank is
ignored; a half-filled row is refused with "Tier N incomplete:
fill in the minimum value and the percentage".

## Payment discount and the order's terms

The **Payment terms** are chosen from the same list the store offers
(fixed, or generated by the installment rules). The rule only applies when the
document's terms are **exactly** those: "30/60" doesn't match
"30/60/90".

⚠️ In the **Type** column and in the price breakdown, this type appears as
**Upfront disc.** whatever the terms are. The real terms are in the
**Detail** column.

## How discount rules combine

Only **one rule of each type** applies. Among rules of the same type, the one for the
specific store beats the "(all)" one.

Different types **multiply**, they don't add up. With 10% from the store and 10% from the
customer, the discount is 19%, not 20% (90% of 90% of the price remains). Adding a
5% volume tier, it comes to 23,05%.

The **Effective** column shows this calculation for the customer discount in a store:
already combined with the store discount. For other rules it stays empty.

## Discount rules, price table and seller discount

- The **price table** gives the line's starting price. See [Price tables](/en/ajuda/tabelas-de-preco).
- The **discount rules** make up the document's automatic discount: in the
quote's item table, the **General** column.
- The **manual discount** the seller gives on the document **replaces** the automatic
rules, and a **fixed price** on a line replaces everything on that line.
- The seller's **additional discount** on the line (**Item** column) combines
on top, and it's what the cap limits. See [Seller's maximum discount: the per-store concession cap](/en/ajuda/desconto-maximo-do-vendedor).

For the full calculation, see [Como o preço de uma linha da cotação é formado](/ajuda/como-o-preco-de-uma-linha-e-formado).

## Edit and remove a discount rule

Click the rule's percentage to edit it: **Enter** saves, **Esc** cancels.
Saving **0** deactivates the rule. The trash icon removes it, after confirming
"Remove this discount rule?".

Changing a rule doesn't rewrite quotes right away. The discount is recalculated when
the document is recalculated, and that only happens in **Draft** and **Waiting**;
a sent proposal and a confirmed order stay as they are.

## Discount rules that come from the import

The **Import Rules** button, at the top of **Commercial Rules**, can create
payment discounts, volume discounts and the store discount, always for your
session's store. The next import **deletes and recreates** these rules, except those
you edited by hand afterwards, which are kept. See [Commercial rules and discount](/en/ajuda/regras-comerciais-e-desconto).

## When it goes wrong

**"Select the store for the default discount"**: the store discount needs a
store; it doesn't exist for "all".

**"Select the customer for the customer discount"**: choose the customer before
creating.

**The payment discount didn't enter the quote.** The document's terms aren't
identical to the rule's, or there is a manual discount on the document replacing the
rules.

**The customer discount didn't enter.** The quote has no registered customer, or
the rule was created for another store.

**The customer percentage isn't what I expected.** There is a rule for the same
customer for that specific store, and it beats the "(all)" one.
