## Summary

Payment terms follow the store's rules, which you configure in **Commercial
Rules**, in the **Payment** section. With **Enable installment rules**
off, the store offers a fixed list of terms, such as **À VISTA**,
**30/60** and **30/60/90**. On, the terms come from the rules:
**Minimum Installment**, **Interval between Installments**, **Maximum Term**, **Allowed 1st
Due Date** and **Allow "Cash"**. The minimum installment also
limits how many installments fit in the order total. These rules only reject the
**buyer**'s order: whoever sells (the seller or you, the administrator) can
negotiate another terms ladder in the quote, and the screen only warns next to the field
when it falls outside the rules. A customer's record can have its own rule, which applies
in place of the store's rule.

The **Default Payment Terms** and the **Default Payment Method** only
fill the field left empty in a new quote. Before them come what the
customer's order already said, the customer's record and, in a rep agency's
quote, the default it set. Locking them makes the
**buyer**'s order go out with the default, even if they chose another; whoever
sells can still change it in the quote.

In the quote, whoever sells (the seller or you, the administrator) chooses the terms
in the **Payment Terms** field: with the rules on, between **Cash** and **On
Credit**; without them, in a single field. The
saved terms appear on the PDF, go with the order and decide the payment
discount. In a store whose ERP stores the terms as installments, there are also
**Payment Terms Templates**, ready-made ladders to apply in the quote.

## Where to find it

In your account menu, under **Commercial Rules**, in the **Payment** section
("Installments, terms and default payment method."). Everything here applies to
the store your session is in. See [Commercial rules and discount](/en/ajuda/regras-comerciais-e-desconto).

## Payment terms without installment rules

With **Turn on installment rules** off, the store uses a fixed list of
terms: **À VISTA**, **A PRAZO 7**, **A PRAZO 14**, **A PRAZO 21**, **A PRAZO
28**, **A PRAZO 30**, **30/60**, **30/60/90**, **28/56/84**, **ENTRADA +
30/60** and **ENTRADA + 30/60/90**. This list supplies the options for
**Default Payment Terms** and for the payment discount rules.

## How to configure the installment rules

1. Turn on **Turn on installment rules**.
2. In **Minimum Installment (R$)**, enter the minimum amount of each installment.
3. In **Interval between Installments**, choose 7, 14, 15, 28 or 30 days.
4. In **Maximum Term (days)**, enter the day of the last possible installment.
5. In **1st Allowed Due Date**, check the days on which the buyer can
start paying. The boxes go from the interval up to the maximum term, one
interval at a time; at least one stays checked.
6. Decide in **Allow "Cash"** whether cash payment remains an
   option.

When you turn it on for the first time, the screen suggests a minimum installment of R$ 700,
a 30-day interval, 1st due date at 30 and a maximum term of 90 days, with cash
allowed. Each field saves when you leave it.

## How the installment rules generate the terms

The terms become the ladders the rules allow. With a
30-day interval, 1st due date at 30, maximum term of 90 and cash allowed, the store
offers **À VISTA**, **30**, **30/60** and **30/60/90**. Checking 60 as a
1st due date too adds **60** and **60/90**.

The **Minimum Installment** limits the number of installments by the order total: each
installment has to reach it. With a minimum installment of R$ 700, an order of
R$ 1.500 accepts up to two installments: **30/60** is valid, **30/60/90** is not. Cash
is never cut by this calculation.

⚠️ The rule rejects the **buyer**'s choice: an order they send with
terms outside the rules comes back with "Payment terms '…' are not valid
for this order's total". Whoever sells (the seller or the administrator), in the
quote, can negotiate another ladder: the screen warns next to the terms field
when it falls outside the policy, but doesn't reject it.

If a customer's record has its own installment rule, it applies in
place of the store's rule for that customer.

## Default Payment Terms and Default Payment Method

**Default Payment Terms** offers the terms from the fixed list or those
generated by the rules. **Default Payment Method** offers Cash, Check,
Credit Card, Debit Card, Store Credit, Trade Bill (Duplicata), Boleto
(bank slip), Bank Deposit, Pix, Bank Transfer, No Payment and
Other.

The default only **fills an empty field**. In a new quote, the terms and the method
come, in this order: from what the customer's order already said; from the
customer's record; in a quote credited to a rep agency, from the default it set; and only
then from the store's default. What the store **locks** stays locked for
the rep agency too. In a store integrated with an ERP, what the customer usually
uses there can also fill the empty field. The default never
rewrites what is already on the document, and quotes already created don't change.

Turning on the installment rules erases the default terms that no longer fit
them; the selector goes back to **None**.

## Lock Payment Terms and Method

Below the defaults: "Locked fields: the buyer won't be able to change them."

- **Lock Payment Terms** and **Lock Payment Method**
apply to the **buyer**'s order: on sending, the order saves the default,
even if they chose something else.
- Whoever sells, the seller or the administrator, can still change both
  in the quote.
- The customer's record can have its own lock, which applies in place of the
  store's.
- Locking without a default makes the field go out empty on the buyer's order.

## How the payment terms reach the order

The terms saved in the quote are the ones that appear on the PDF and go with the order. They
also decide the **payment discount**: a rule for "À VISTA" only applies
when the document's terms are exactly that. See [Discount rules: store, customer, volume and payment](/en/ajuda/regras-de-desconto).

In a store whose ERP stores the terms as installments, the store can have ready-made ladders
for whoever sells. See [Payment terms templates: ready-made terms ladders for the seller](/en/ajuda/modelos-de-prazo).

## When it goes wrong

**I chose None for the default terms and it came back.** ⚠️ Today choosing **None**
in **Default Payment Terms** or **Default Payment Method** doesn't erase
the already saved default: the screen says **Saved**, but on reload the old value
comes back. Switch to another option or ask support to clear it.

**The buyer can't close with 30/60/90.** Their total doesn't fit
three installments above the **Minimum Installment**, or that ladder isn't produced by the rules.

**The default terms disappeared after I turned on installments.** They didn't fit the
new rules and were erased. Choose one of the generated terms.

**I turned off installments and Default Payment Terms ended up with nothing
selected.** Turning off the installment rules swaps the options for the fixed
list, but **doesn't erase** the default terms that were saved. If they were
terms generated by the rules (for example, 15/30/45) that don't exist in the fixed list,
they keep applying to new quotes without appearing in the field.
Choose terms from the fixed list to replace them.

**The buyer chose another method and the order went out with the default.** The field is
locked, in the store or in the customer's record.
