# Import a new catalog: the step-by-step wizard

> For the administrator: import the full catalog by spreadsheet with the wizard and review the mapping of columns, tabs, variants and price tables.

## Where to find it

In your account menu, under **Catalog and exports**, **Import** tab → the
**Import spreadsheet** button → **Import new catalog**.

The **Import** tab is the last one on the screen, and it only appears while some store
receives its catalog by spreadsheet. With the ERP in every store, the catalog comes from
the ERP and the tab doesn't appear.

⚠️ This is the path that **replaces** the catalog: products that aren't in the
spreadsheet are deactivated. To only add or correct, use **Update
existing catalog**. See [Update an existing catalog: add without removing anything](/en/ajuda/atualizar-catalogo-existente).

## Full import, step by step

1. Check the store in the **Store** selector at the top of the hub.
2. Click **Import spreadsheet** and choose **Import new catalog**.
3. In the **Import Products** window, drag the file or click to select it
   (`.xlsx`, `.xls` or `.csv`). If you need a starting point, use
   **Download template**.
4. Click **Analyze**. The wizard reads the spreadsheet and detects the columns
   on its own.
5. On the **Mapping Review** screen, check and correct what it understood
   (details in the sections below).
6. Click **Import (N rows)**. The window shows **Importing catalog...**
   with the steps and the progress bar.
7. At the end, **Import complete** shows how many products were
   **Added**, **Updated** and **Removed**, plus the warnings.

The **Import** button is only enabled when a **SKU / Code** column or
a **Description** column is mapped. **Back** returns to the file choice without saving
anything.

## The Mapping Review screen

In the title, next to **Mapping Review**, a badge with a percentage says
how confident the wizard is in its reading: green from 90%, yellow from
70%, red below that. Under the title come the file name, the number
of rows and columns and, when the mapping was reused from a
previous import, **(cached mapping)**.

Yellow or red banners at the top are warnings from the wizard: required
field not found, low confidence. The **N columns need
attention** banner lists columns classified with low confidence: check each one.

**Column mapping** links the system fields (**SKU / Code**,
**Description**, **Price**, **Stock**) to the spreadsheet columns. In each field you can
swap the column or choose **None**. Next to **Price**, **Multiple
prices** turns the column into price tables; next to **Stock**,
**Multiple locations** splits the stock by location.

## Spreadsheet with several tabs

When the file has more than one tab, **Sheets to import** appears, with a
checkbox per tab and the number of rows in each one. Each tab has its own
mapping: click the tab name to review its mapping.

- A tab with no recognized code or description column comes unchecked, with the warning
  **This tab is disabled**.
- Under **Sheet name**, the **Save as "tab" attribute** option records on each
  product the name of the tab it came from.
- The same code in two checked tabs: the one in the last tab wins.

## Classify the other columns

Columns that aren't code, description, price or stock appear under
**Attributes to import** and, collapsed, under **Ignored fields (N)**. Each one
shows **Fill rate**, **Values** and **Examples**, and has a
**Classification** selector:

- **Ignore**: the column doesn't come in;
- **Attribute**: becomes a product attribute (brand, application, color);
- **Collection**: groups the products into collections by the column's value (one column
  only);
- **Variant**: the column defines variants (color, size) of the same product;
- **Cross-ref.**: other brands' codes for the same product, used in
  search;
- **Tax**: the column carries a tax rate or tax amount;
- **Price table**: the column is one more price (it becomes a table);
- **Unit and Packaging**: sales unit or quantity per package.

Columns that are almost empty or have a single value appear dimmed: it's usually
better to ignore them.

## The special sections of the review

Depending on the spreadsheet, dedicated sections appear:

- **Price and Packaging**: which column the sales unit and the quantity
  per package come from, and whether the price refers to the package or the unit. See [Product unit, packaging and sales multiple](/en/ajuda/unidade-embalagem-e-multiplo).
- **Variants**: the detected dimension and the columns classified as variant.
- **Stock by location**: one code per location (e.g. SP, SC) linked to its stock
  column; **Add location** adds one, **Use a single column** goes back
  to a single stock.
- **Images**: **Import images (N detected)** when the spreadsheet has photos
  inside the cells or an image link column.
- **Cross-references (alternate SKUs)**: column, **Brand / Label** and the
  **Import** box for each one.
- **Price tables**: one row per price column. See [Load price table prices by spreadsheet](/en/ajuda/precos-das-tabelas-por-planilha).
- **Detected taxes**: each tax column with its **Type** (**Percentage**,
  **Fixed value** or **Derived**) and the **Interpretation** of the percentage.
- **Data sample**: the first rows, only with the columns that will come in.

At the end of the review, the orange banner **There are N registered products. Products
that aren't in the spreadsheet will be removed.** reminds you what is at stake.

## The import result

The **Import complete** screen shows the three numbers and, when there are any:

- the list of **Warnings:** rows that didn't come in, for example "SKU and description
  missing";
- **Duplicate SKUs:** codes repeated in the same tab; the first row was
  kept;
- the message about fields preserved by the ERP;
- "N product(s) left the promotion", when a promotional column was
  reimported;
- the warning that search may be out of date, when the search index update
  failed.

Close with **Close**. The warnings remain visible afterwards, in the **Last
import with N warnings** banner of the **Import** tab.

## When it goes wrong

**"The Import button is grayed out."** You still need to map **SKU / Code** or
**Description**. With several tabs, at least one checked tab must have one of
the two.

**"The wizard swapped the columns."** Correct it in **Mapping Review** before
importing. On the next import for the same store, the mapping you
confirmed is reused.

**"File too large. Maximum allowed: 20MB"**, or a tab that "exceeds the
limit" of 20 thousand rows: split the spreadsheet into smaller files. The first
part goes through **Import new catalog**; the following ones, through **Update
existing catalog**, otherwise each file would deactivate the products of the previous ones.

**"'Search may be out of date' appeared."** The products were saved,
but the search index didn't keep up. The data is correct; if search doesn't
find a new product, import again or contact support.
