# Edit or delete a catalog product

> For the administrator: edit a catalog product's description, base price, stock and photo, manage variants in bulk and learn when it can be deleted.

## Where to find it

In the menu, under **Catalog**. In the product list, the **Edit** pencil on each row
opens the product page; clicking the product does the same. It is on the product page
that the administrator edits and deletes.

To find a deactivated product, use the list's **Status** filter: **Active
only** (the default), **Inactive only** or **Active and inactive**.

## Editing description, price, stock, brand and photo

1. On the product page, click the pencil button (**Edit**), next to
   **Add to Quote**.
2. Adjust the fields: **Description**, **Price**, **Stock**, **Brand** and **Catalog
   image (main)**.
3. Click **Save**, or **Cancel** to give up.

In **Catalog image (main)** you paste an image link or click
**Upload** to send it from your computer. This photo is the one shown in the list and in the
catalog, and it is used in photo recognition: when you save, its fingerprint
is recalculated by itself. Changing the main one does not delete the product's other photos;
clearing the field and saving removes all of them.

The catalog search is updated right after saving.

## ⚠️ The price edited here is the base price

The **Price** field in the editor is the product's **base price**, the one that applies to whoever
has no price table. It has **no** effect on the product's price in the store's price
tables.

If the store has a default table, or the customer has its own table, and the product has a
price in that table, the customer keeps seeing the table price. The prices of
each table appear on the **Price Tables** card, at the end of the product
page, read-only. To change a table's price, use the import.
See [Load price table prices by spreadsheet](/en/ajuda/precos-das-tabelas-por-planilha).

## Unit, packaging, prepack, collection and attributes

Other parts of the page are also editable by the administrator:

- the **unit and packaging badge**, next to the code, opens **Sales
  unit**, **Qty. per package** and **Price per package**. See [Product unit, packaging and sales multiple](/en/ajuda/unidade-embalagem-e-multiplo);
- the prepack selector (**No prepack**, **Open prepack**, **Closed prepack (kit)**),
  when the product has variants;
- on the **Attributes** card, the **Collection** field (or **No collection**);
- **Manage Variants (N)**, at the end of the page, to create, activate, deactivate,
price and delete variants, and to edit the **Variant dimensions**.

## Barcodes and cross-references

The codes card on the product page separates two lists:

- **Barcodes**: the ones that can be removed have a trash can beside them. Removal
asks for confirmation (**Remove this barcode?**) and the code stops
  finding the product in search;
- **Cross references**: "Equivalent codes from other brands, coming from the
catalog import." They are not removed here: they go away in a new full
import whose cross-reference column no longer brings that code.

## Fields locked by the ERP

⚠️ In a store whose catalog is synced with the ERP, some of the fields belong to the ERP:
description, price, unit, packaging, brand and others. They appear
disabled, with the **Catalog synced with the ERP** notice saying which ones.
The fix is in the ERP, from where the value comes back by itself. The **Stock** edited here
stays unlocked.

## Deleting a product

1. On the product page, click the trash can button (**Delete**).
2. The screen goes back to the list and asks: **Delete Product**: "Are you sure you
want to delete the product ...? This action cannot be undone."
3. Click **Delete**.

Deletion erases the product for good. That is why it is **refused** when the product
has already been used: the message "Cannot delete: this product is in use in
quotes, in the price history or in latent demand." This protects the
old documents, which still point to it.

## Deactivating instead of deleting

The product page has no deactivate button. A product goes out of circulation
(it disappears from search and the catalog, but stays registered and visible under **Inactive
only**) when:

- an **Import new catalog** is done without its code in the spreadsheet;
- in a store synced with the ERP, the ERP deactivates it.

To take a product that already has quotes out of circulation, that is the way: the
full import without it. To bring it back, the code just needs to return in an
import (full or update). Variants, on the other hand, are activated and
deactivated in **Manage Variants**, one by one or several at once through the
**Select** mode.

## Variants in bulk and renaming a dimension

On the product page, at the end, click **Manage Variants (N)** to open
the variant manager. Each variant is a card with the active switch, the
**Edit** button and the trash can. To change many variants at once, use the
**Select** mode; to change the name of a dimension (Color, Size,
Voltage), use the **Variant dimensions** row, at the top of the manager.

Below the dimensions, a summary shows how many variants the product has, how many
are active, how many inactive and how many have **no own price**: it is the
quick way to check the result of a bulk change.

### Activating, deactivating, pricing or deleting several variants at once

1. In **Manage Variants**, click **Select**, next to
**Add**. Each card gets a checkbox.
2. Check the variants, or use **Select all**. To pick a group, first type
in **Search by SKU or attribute...** (for example, "blue"):
**Select all** checks only the variants the search is showing.
3. With at least one checked, the **N selected** bar appears with the
**Activate**, **Deactivate**, **Set price** and **Delete** buttons.
4. Choose the action. When it finishes without error, the selection mode closes by itself.
To leave without doing anything, click **Cancel**.

What each button of the **Select** mode does:

- **Activate** and **Deactivate**: a deactivated variant stays registered, appears
with the **Inactive** badge and leaves the catalog search. Nothing is erased.
- **Set price**: opens **New price for N variant(s)**; type the value and
click **Apply**. All the checked ones get that **own price**,
instead of "inheriting" the product's price. For a variant to inherit again,
open it in **Edit** and turn on the **Inherit from product** switch.
- **Delete**: asks for confirmation in **Delete N Variant(s)**: "Are you sure you
want to delete N variant(s)? This action cannot be undone." The
  **Delete N** button confirms.

⚠️ Deleting a variant is permanent and, unlike deleting the product,
**is not refused** when the variant is already in quotes: the lines of those
quotes stop pointing to the variant. To take a variant out of
circulation, prefer **Deactivate**.

⚠️ The bulk change is made variant by variant. If an error appears
(**Error updating variants**, **Error setting price** or **Error removing
variants**), some of the variants may already have changed: reload the page and
check the cards before repeating.

### Renaming a variant dimension

In **Manage Variants**, the **Variant dimensions** row shows each
dimension of the product as a tag.

1. Click the dimension's name. It becomes an editable field.
2. Type the new name.
3. Press **Enter** or click outside the field to save. **Esc** cancels.

The message **Dimension renamed to "..."** confirms it. Vendria changes the name in the
product's dimension list and **rewrites the name in all variants of that
product that use the dimension**. The values (Blue, S, 110V) do not change; only the
name shown with them changes, including in the title of each variant card.

⚠️ Clicking outside the field **saves** the typed name, it does not cancel. To give up,
use **Esc**.

⚠️ The change applies only to this product. Other products with a dimension of the same
name stay as they were.

⚠️ The change is saved variant by variant. If **Error renaming** appears,
some of the variants may have kept the old name: reload the page and
check before trying again.

If the new name already exists in the product, the screen warns **Dimension already exists** and nothing
changes. To add a dimension, use the **New dimension...** field and the
**+** button. The tag's **x** removes the dimension, but it is refused when some
variant uses it: "Cannot remove "..." — there are variants using this
dimension".

## When it goes wrong

**"I changed the price and the customer still sees the old one."** The customer is on a
price table that has its own price for the product. Look at the page's **Price
Tables** card.

**"The field is gray."** The field belongs to the ERP. See the **Catalog synced
with the ERP** notice.

**"I can't delete it."** The product is already in a quote, price history or
latent demand. Take it out of circulation through the full import.

**"I changed several variants and some did not change."** The bulk change goes
variant by variant; after an error, reload the page and repeat only on the
ones left behind.

**"I can't find the activate switch on each variant."** In **Select** mode each
card's switch disappears. Click **Cancel** to go back to normal mode.
