# Customer discount: the default one and the one for each store

> For the administrator: give a customer a discount on their profile, the default for all stores or one per store, and how it enters quotes.

## Where to find it

In the menu, under **Customers**: open the customer and go to the **Discounts & Access** tab. There are
two places on the same tab:

- the **Default Discount** card: "Applied in all stores that do not have a
  specific discount";
- the **Discount** column of the **Settings per Store** card, one row per store.

The same **Default Discount (%)** also appears on the **Details** tab, in the
**Commercial** card, and in the list's **Edit Buyer Company** form. It is the same
value in all three places.

## What the customer discount is

It is an automatic percentage that goes into **every** quote and order of that
customer, without the seller having to remember. It applies on top of the price from the
customer's price table and combines with the store's other automatic discounts.

Underneath, it is the **Customer disc. (specific)** rule in **Commercial
Rules**: giving a discount in the profile and creating that rule there are the same thing, and
what you save in one place shows up in the other. See [Discount rules: store, customer, volume and payment](/en/ajuda/regras-de-desconto).

## Default Discount or per-store discount

- **Default Discount** applies in **all** of the company's stores, including the ones
  you open later.
- A store's **Discount** applies only in that store and **overrides** the default there.

Example: default of 5% and 8% in store B. In store A the customer has 5%; in store B, 8%
(not 13%).

## How to give a customer a discount

1. Open the customer profile and the **Discounts & Access** tab.
2. For all stores, click the value on the **Default Discount** card and type the
   percentage.
3. For a single store, click the value in that store's **Discount** column on the
   **Settings per Store** card.
4. The screen confirms with **Default discount updated** or **Discount updated**.
   There is no save button.

Decimal places are accepted. To **remove** the discount, save **0**: the customer
rule is turned off.

## ⚠️ When creating the customer, the discount comes later

The **New Buyer Company** form shows **Default Discount (%)**, but on
creation that value is not saved. After saving the new customer, give the discount
on the **Discounts & Access** tab.

## What the customer discount changes in quotes

- It goes into the document's automatic discount, in the **General** column of the
  items table.
- If the seller gives a **manual discount** on the document, the manual one replaces the
  automatic ones.
- A **fixed price** on a line replaces everything on that line.

Documents already sent to the customer or confirmed do not change price. A draft
picks up the new discount when it is edited. See [Como o preço de uma linha da cotação é formado](/ajuda/como-o-preco-de-uma-linha-e-formado).

## ⚠️ Pattern learning can create a customer discount by itself

With **Learn commercial patterns** turned on in the store, the manual discount given on a
confirmed order becomes that customer's discount rule in that store. If a
customer shows a discount nobody gave in the profile, it is almost always this.
See [Customer details on documents and learning of commercial patterns](/en/ajuda/dados-do-cliente-nos-documentos).

## Common questions

- **I gave 10% as the default and in one store the customer has another value.** That store has a
specific discount in the **Discount** column, which overrides the default.
- **The discount did not go into the quote.** The quote has no registered customer,
was already sent or confirmed, or has a manual discount from the seller.
- **The customer has 10% and the store has 10%, but the total came to 19%.** Discounts of
different types multiply, they do not add up.
- **"Discount must be between 0 and 100"**: the value typed is not a valid
  percentage.
- **"Error saving default discount"** / **"Error saving discount"**: the value
  was not saved; try again.
