# Open cart and editing an existing quote

> The open cart before it becomes a quote, how to save or clear it, and how to edit and add products to a quote that already exists in Vendria.

## Where to find it

The open cart is in the **Cart** item of the top menu, which only appears
when there are products in it (on a phone, in the dark strip right above the tabs). A
quote that already exists opens from the **Quotes** menu, by clicking its row.

## What the open cart is

The cart is the work **before** it becomes a quote: the products you have been
adding from the Catalog and have not saved yet. It has no number and **does not
appear in the Quotes list**, because it is not a document yet.

The cart is kept in your account: you can close the screen and come back
later, and it stays there until you save or clear it. It is **yours only**: another
seller or the administrator cannot see a colleague's half-built cart.
As soon as you save, it becomes a quote and can be seen like any other.

## How to know there is an open cart

- At the top of the screen, the **Cart** item shows in parentheses how many
**different products** are in it: it is the line count, not the sum of the
  quantities.
- On a phone, the dark strip above the tabs shows **Cart**, the total and
  **View**.
- In the **Quotes** list, when those two notices are not in view (for
example, because you are in the middle of editing a quote), the strip
**You have an open cart with** the number of items appears, reminding you that it
is not a quote yet and does not appear in the list. The **Continue** link takes you to the
  cart.

## Continue, keep or throw away an open cart

1. Click **Cart** at the top (or **Continue**, on the strip in the Quotes
   list).
2. To **keep** the work, click **Save Quote**: the cart becomes
a draft quote, with a number, and leaves the cart.
3. To **throw it away**, click **Clear** in the header and confirm with
   **Clear**.

⚠️ Clearing a new cart deletes everything, and the confirmation says how many items will be
lost. The deleted cart does not become a cancelled quote and is not recorded
anywhere. If there is a chance you will need it, save it as a quote.

## Edit a quote that already exists

A draft quote **is editable right on its page**: there is no "edit" button
and no "save" button. Each change (quantity, price, customer,
conditions, notes) is saved right away.

A quote that is already with the customer, confirmed or cancelled does not open for
editing the same way; see [Whose turn it is, and when the quote freezes](/en/ajuda/de-quem-e-a-vez-e-quando-a-cotacao-congela).

If you leave the page in the middle of editing, nothing is lost: what was
changed is already saved on the quote.

## Add products to a quote that already exists

In the quote table, click **Add Item** and look for the product in the
**Search** field that opens right there: the product goes into the quote right away, and those already
in it appear marked with **already in the quote**. On an order allocated among
branches this button does not appear in the table.

To choose from the full Catalog, click **view full catalog**. From
then on you are in **add items mode**:

1. In the Catalog, the top menu item shows the **quote number** with the
product count (on a phone, the dark strip also shows the number).
   What you add goes to that quote, not to a new cart;
the exception is a product from another store, and then the screen asks first.
2. To go back, click the quote number at the top.
3. On the quote page, the blue **Editing quote** bar appears with the
number and the product count, and the note **Saved automatically**.
4. Click **Finish editing** to wrap up: the quote stays a
draft, the screen shows **Quote saved.** and the page starts showing the
   quote read-only.

To edit again after finishing, use the **Resume editing** button, at the
top of the quote page.

## A cart left open when adding items to a quote

You can only have one piece of work in progress at a time. If there is an open
cart and you enter add items mode for a quote, the
**You have a cart in progress** window appears, saying how many items it has.
The ways out are:

- **Save as quote**: the cart becomes its own quote and you go on
  to the Catalog adding to the quote you were editing;
- **Discard cart**: the cart is deleted and you go on the same way;
- **Cancel**: nothing changes and you stay where you were.

## Import and Clear inside an existing quote

On the page of a draft quote, **Import** and **Clear** are in the
**Other actions** menu, next to **Export**:

- **Import** adds lines to the quote from a photo, spreadsheet or
pasted text. See [Import a quote on screen: photo, PDF or spreadsheet](/en/ajuda/importar-cotacao-pela-tela).
- **Clear** opens the **Discard changes** confirmation: the changes made
since you opened the quote for editing are undone and it goes back to what
it was before, and **no** item that was already on the quote is deleted.

⚠️ The menu item's text talks about removing the lines, but on a quote that already
has a number the effect is the confirmation's: undoing the changes of this edit.
Read the window before confirming.

## Common questions

**I built a cart and it disappeared from the Quotes list.** It was never there:
a cart is not a quote. Look for the **Cart** item at the top, or the
**You have an open cart** strip in the list.

**Can my colleague see the cart I started?** No. Only after it is
saved, as a quote.

**Where is the quote's save button?** There is none: a draft quote
saves on its own. **Finish editing** only appears when you are in add
items mode.

**I closed the tab in the middle of editing. Did I lose anything?** No. What you changed
has already been saved.

**I cleared an existing quote and the items are still there.** That is expected: on a
quote with a number, Clear undoes the changes of the current edit, it does not delete the
quote.
